United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)
The UNIDO is an implementing agency for the Global Environment Facility (GEF), whose mission is to, among other objectives, promote the adoption of renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) technologies and services in the industrial sector. The ultimate goal of this UNIDO/GEF project was to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This project had three components, and two of them were directly related to Econoler’s assignment, namely “promoting RE and EE investments in the industrial sector” and “creating a platform for promoting investments and sustainability”.
As part of the activities under these two components, Econoler organized and conducted a number of training events on the ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS), industrial EE and RE applications and RE/EE finance. The training events were focused on the industrial sector and were intended for all major stakeholders. These events were focused on EE and RE technologies and included both short sessions of awareness-raising and expert training (1-5 days), and long sessions of practical training for experts. These training events’ objective was to build capacity among the existing energy experts, consultants, executives and other professionals and to bring them up to par with the international standards.
More specifically, the assignment’s activities included:
- Designing and developing the course contents for both the short and the long training sessions based on internationally accepted practices.
- Developing the implementation plan for conducting the training events.
- Developing the criteria and methodology for selecting and qualifying the trainees by working with the UNIDO, with a particular focus on encouraging women to participate in the planned training sessions.
- Developing and conducting the EnMS training session for energy managers and auditors to ensure that the trainees would be subsequently certified by internationally recognized certifying institutions.
